The follow-up to The Throb's 1966 hit Fortune Teller was Black, an R&B reworking of Black Is The Colour (Of My True Love's Hair), a traditional folk song.
The original song has been often recorded, notably (and numerously) by Nina Simone.
There is, of course, a detailed discussion of the song's history at Mud Cat Cafe: good luck with that one.
For more details of The Throb see Fortune Teller.
